Sometimes it’s nice to make a recipe that is simple, delicious and wholeheartedly old fashioned. A few simple ingredients and boom! It’s childhood in a mouthful.
This chocolate slice has no fancy ingredients in it whatsoever, it’s just plain good.
If you’re feeling nostalgic, don your apron and whip up this no bake recipe in a flash.
There are a million variations of this slice, but this particular recipe from Taste did the trick. I did use a fresh vanilla pod instead of essence (my little bottle of vanilla had inexplicably done a runner) and I used cacao powder as a rawer, unsweetened version of plain old cocoa powder.
When I was photographing this I somehow managed to eat all the offcuts of my slices without even realising it. The combination of the rich chocolate icing and crunchy biscuit filling is an irresistible alchemy. Magic in a slice.
